CloakShell vs. mainstream community platforms

CloakShell gives groups the real-time chat they expect from Discord, Slack, and BAND, plus built-in forums, with no ads, no data mining, and no ID or face-scan age checks. The paid tier costs less than Discord Nitro or Slack Pro, and public communities can be read without an account: browse them and judge for yourself.

Switching from Discord, Slack, or BAND?

Leaving Discord over age verification?

Discord is rolling out age assurance globally in the second half of 2026, with verification options that include a facial age estimation video selfie or a government ID. CloakShell never asks for either: just a date of birth, entered once at sign-up.

Hit Slack's 90-day free history limit?

Slack's free plan keeps the most recent 90 days of message and file history, and workspace data older than one year is deleted. Lifting the limit means Slack Pro at $7.25 per active user per month billed annually, which grows with the size of the group. On CloakShell, full message history is part of the free tier, and the paid tier is one flat price per account.

Seeing ads in BAND?

BAND shows ads as part of the service, and removing them is a paid product at $1.99 per 30 days (US, iOS). Some ad types cannot be removed at all. CloakShell shows no ads on any tier, so there is nothing to remove.

How does CloakShell+ compare to Discord Nitro and Slack Pro?

CloakShell+ is $4.99/month or $47.99/year, one flat price per account. Discord Nitro is $9.99/month or $99.99/year. Slack Pro is priced per active user, so the total grows with the size of the group. One thing CloakShell+ never includes is privacy, because the free tier already has all of it. No ads, no data mining, and no selling of user data come standard on every account. The upgrade buys capacity and customization.

Quick math: CloakShell+ is $4.99 flat. Discord Nitro is $9.99. Slack Pro for a group of 20 active users is $145 a month (20 at $7.25 each, billed annually).

What does CloakShell not have?

An honest comparison includes the gaps. CloakShell is a newer, smaller platform, and some things the mainstream platforms offer are not here:

  • No voice or video calls. CloakShell channels are text and forum only, by design.
  • A much smaller ecosystem. Discord and Slack have years of third-party apps, integrations, and communities that CloakShell does not match yet.
  • A shorter track record. CloakShell launched publicly in March 2026.

If those tradeoffs work for your group, there are two ways to see if CloakShell fits.

Four fields and you're in.
